Dr. Adams is a highly respected Neuropsychologist / Psychologist among her patients, peers, and colleagues. Her interest in neuropsychology began as an undergraduate while researching how symptoms of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) impact brain functioning and memory, with a family history of traumatic brain injury and Alzheimer's providing a greater appreciation of how neuropsychology can assist individuals and their families.
Dr. Adams served in the U.S. Army, working in communications and providing administrative assistance to company and platoon leadership. She earned her Bachelor's degree from Florida State University where she focused on Psychology and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and also held Research Assistant and Senior Research Assistant positions.
She earned her Doctor of Psychology degree from Albizu University-Miami Campus, with an emphasis in neuropsychology. Dr. Adams was drawn to this accredited program, not only for its neuropsychology emphasis but also for the vision of its founder, Dr. Albizu-Miranda, to provide training that builds cultural competence to meet the needs of multicultural individuals and communities. Her practica and externships included neuropsychological and Evidenced Based Therapy training with multicultural components.
As a Student Clinician at the Biscayne Institute of Health & Living, she provided individual/group psychotherapy to a diverse group of individuals. She also conducted cognitive rehabilitation with adults with acquired brain injury and/or other diverse physical, cognitive, communicative, developmental, and/or learning abilities.
As an Extern at the Miami VA Healthcare System, Dr. Adams performed comprehensive outpatient and inpatient neuropsychological evaluations. At the University of Miami, Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Services, Neuropsychology, she performed outpatient comprehensive evaluations with children and adults, as well as inpatient evaluations for complex medical and psychiatric cases. In UM's Center on Aging, she was a Senior Research Assistant, on one study, and the Assistant Research Coordinator for another, both nationally funded to better understand Alzheimer’s disease.
Dr. Adams joined the Dayton VA Medical Center for Internship/Pre-Postdoc in Neuropsychology. Her generalist training included providing Evidenced Based Treatments in the Mental Health Clinic and Primary Care Setting (PCMHI). She conducted neuropsychological, psychological, and brief bedside capacity evaluations as part of the Consultation & Liaison and Neuropsychology Departments.
Her two-year Neuropsychology Postdoctoral Fellowship was in private practice at the Applied Psychology Group of Texoma. Here she honed her skill set working with children and adults. Minor rotations included bedside evaluations at Carrus Rehabilitation and shadowing a neurologist during her rounds at Texoma Institute of Neurology.
Dr. Adams continued providing neuropsychological and psychological evaluations in private practice, for several years, where she also managed psychometrists and staff. During 2020 and beyond, she sought knowledge and trained on psychological and/or neuropsychological changes some individuals experience after acquiring COVID-19.
Dr. Adams is an active member of multiple professional organizations and academies. She has been invited to present multiple times at the National Academy of Neuropsychology annual conference and presented at an Association for Psychological Sciences and Florida Psychological Association conference. She served in the U.S. Army and has worked in civil service for the U.S. Navy. She received numerous honors and awards during her military, civilian, and educational career. This sense of honor and duty persists in her service to her patients and their families.
On a personal note,
Dr. Adams has been married for 37 years and has three furbabies. She enjoys the outdoors and regularly goes camping, canoeing, and geocaching. Her indoor hobbies include gourmet cooking, karaoke, painting, and learning the guitar.
